That said, there are an emerging number of third parties offering products to help you increase the battery life of the 3DS, by up to double or triple the life of the original offering. I'll use this post to document these products as they come to market, starting with...
Portable Power Battery Pack for Nintendo 3DS
The Portable Power Battery Pack works both as a portable battery to double your Nintendo 3DS' battery life, and a wireless charger. Once the pack has been fully charged using the included USB cable, it's available to play and recharge your 3DS anywhere without any wires.
You simply place the 3DS onto the battery pack and push the power button to begin charging.
Thus far, the best battery life extender available for the 3DS.
Nyko Power Pak+
The Nyko Power Pak+ claims to double the battery life of the Nintendo 3DS once it is clipped onto the device. You'll also need to buy the Charge Base
Several gaming sites have tested the Nyko Power Pak+ and confirmed that it does indeed help to boost the 3DS' battery life considerably.
PowerPlay Battery Extender
The PowerPlay battery extender promises to triple the battery life of the Nintendo 3DS (that's somewhere around 15-20 hours of play) when installed. Unlike the Nyko Power Pak+, you don't need to tamper with the 3DS to install the device - it simply clips around the 3DS, doubling as a shield to protect your 3DS against scrapes and scratches.
3DS Rechargeable Battery Pack
Unlike the options above, Hyperkin's 3DS Rechargeable battery pack is simply a replacement for the original 3DS battery. It promises to double the battery life of the Nintendo 3DS, and is cheaper than the solutions above - at under $10.
