How long does the 3DS battery last? How to increase 3DS battery life
The Nintendo 3DS battery will last between 3-5 hours for 3DS games, or 5-8 hours if you are playing regular Nintendo DS games. The battery life will vary depending on the screen brightness you have set, and whether you have the likes of 3D ramped up to full, and wireless activated.
How to make 3DS battery life last longer
1. Turn the 3D effect off by moving the 3D slider to its lowest position.
2. Turn wireless communications off - searching for StreetPass data and playing online will suck precious minutes from the battery life.
3. Switch the brightness down to its lowest setting (via the sun-shaped icon on the Home Menu). On the same menu, use the Power Save mode for the lowest brightness setting possible.
4. In between play sessions, turn your 3DS off fully, instead of just closing it into Sleep Mode.
How to increase the 3DS battery life
Realising the relatively poor battery life of the Nintendo 3DS, many third parties have developed solutions to make it last longer, either by attaching a battery pack to the console or by switching the 3DS battery with another. They might add a little bulk to the 3DS, but for long journeys or ocassions where you'll be away from a power supply to charge, they're a welome lifeline.
In testing, these power packs have been proven to double the life of the 3DS' battery. For a run-down of all of the options available, check out 3DSFocus' guide here.
